Man found with over 1,000 Ecstasy pills claims they are diet pills

A man accused of having over 1,000 MDMA pills was arrested on possession and tracking charges Tuesday.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a gold Hyundai Santa Fe for driving over the median divider and fog lines on Highway 441 in Summerfield.

Thomas Petrick was driving the car. Petrick told police he was swerving because he dropped his electric cigarette and was trying to pick it up.

A K-9 officer gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics in near the car.

Deputies searched Petrick’s car and found a mason jar filled with 1,258 multi-colored pills, and an electronic scale between two child seats.

Petrick says the mason jar was filled with diet pills that he buys online. But police say the pills tested positive for Ecstasy, also known as MDMA.

He was arrested and charged with trafficking illegal drugs and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Petrick posted his $22,000 bond and is now out of jail.
