JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was killed early Saturday when a pickup truck crossed the center line on Commonwealth Avenue and collided with his car, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Just before 4 a.m., a Toyota Tundra was traveling west on Commonwealth Avenue when it crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound Volkswagen Passat, according to Sgt. Robert Peck, speaking on behalf of the sheriff’s Traffic Homicide Unit.

The Tundra overturned onto its passenger side.

The Passat’s driver was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.

The Tundra’s driver suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. Peck said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

It is unclear why the Tundra crossed the center line. Peck said investigators will examine possible contributing factors, including speed, impairment and distracted driving.

This is a developing story.
