JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are investigating after a dramatic shooting Wednesday afternoon that left one man dead and an innocent bystander injured.

In a live news conference, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Stephens said around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a gas station on Powers Ave. where the scene unfolded.

According to witnesses, a group of people were standing outside of the convenience store when a white sedan and a white SUV pulled up and several people exited the cars and began shooting.

JSO said at this time the shooting appears to be targeted.

Police say an adult Black male was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Another man, believed to be an innocent bystander, transported himself to the hospital. JSO said the man had a child in his vehicle when he was shot but the child was not hurt.

This is a developing story.
