ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A 41-year-old St. Augustine man is dead after the motorized scooter he was riding was hit by an SUV Wednesday evening. It happened at State Road 16 and Downs Corner Road.
The victim was riding the scooter westbound on SR 16 as was the driver of the SUV, a Florida Highway Patrol news release states. The right front bumper of the SUV hit the back of the scooter sending it and the rider into a ditch on the right shoulder, the news release states.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the SUV did not remain at the location of the crash, the news release states. However, the news release identified the driver of the SUV as a 47-year-old St. Augustine man.
FHP said its investigation of the crash is ongoing.
