Jerry McGarry said he walked into LA Fitness at Atlantic and Kernan boulevards last week, and put his keys and wallet inside a locked locker.
He said shortly after, when he came back to the locker room, he noticed his stuff was taken.
“I went to open up the locker and noticed my wallet was missing and my car keys,” McGarry said.
He said he told the manager, who called police.
“I noticed my car was missing,” he said.
This isn’t the first gym theft we’ve seen in Jacksonville. Just two months ago, a man was caught on ATM surveillance using a woman’s debit card after he broke into her car at Bailey's Gym off Beach Boulevard.
Almost a year ago, another woman's car stolen from Planet Fitness on south Old Kings Road South after her keys were taken off a key rack.
In St. Johns County, a car and gun were stolen after keys were taken from a gym locker. Investigators say surveillance video showed an unknown woman taking a tour of the St. Augustine Planet Fitness. She walked into the locker room twice before leaving.
The stolen car was recovered Wednesday morning. The victim's .22 revolver and wallet were missing.
“There has to be something that should be done for it,” said McGarry.
McGarry said he called LA Fitness’s corporate office.
“It's ridiculous. There's no cameras in the gym or in parking lot,” he said.
He said the corporate office told him nothing can be done.
Action News Jax went into the LA Fitness to talk to a manager.
We were told they couldn’t talk and to call corporate. We called and emailed them Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
We’re going to continue to call them to try to get answers and see if any changes will be made at the gym.
