ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has filed additional charges against an inmate accused of attempting to arrange the death of a witness in a pending criminal case, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.
Dustin Furnal, 42, faces new charges of solicitation to commit murder and tampering in a first-degree felony proceeding, a sheriff’s office social media post states.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit discovered that Furnal was communicating with another individual to organize the murder of a person scheduled to testify against him, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators uncovered the alleged plot after reviewing hours of recorded jail calls, visitation recordings and conversations between the two, according to the sheriff’s office.
Furnal has been incarcerated in St. Johns County since June 2026 on numerous prior felony charges. Those charges include trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamine, unlawful use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, tampering with evidence, conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Furnal’s bond was revoked on Oct. 17, 2026. He remains in custody at the St. Johns County Jail without bond. He’s scheduled to be back in court on Nov. 4.
