DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — The Navy and fire department held an active shooter drill at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Navy officials at Mayport said it’s not a matter of if it will happen but when it will happen, which is why sailors train tirelessly for situations when human lives are at stake.

During the active shooter scenario, police responded after a gunman entered the Navy Exchange and started shooting. Victims then rushed out needing medical attention and police responding about 6 minutes after the initial call. For the participants, it was all about practice and precision.
The drill tests both response time and tactics.

"The focus here is not only to be prepared but to check our procedures to make sure that we're as prepared as we can be," Exercise Coordinator Willie Green said. He organized the drill.
The Navy does this type of training every couple of months to stay sharp.
