BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia’s gas tax suspension officially went into effect Tuesday.
It comes as gas prices across the country are continuing to rise due to the war with Iran.

“It’s just our way of trying to keep more money in the pocket of hard-working Georgians during a very tough, high-cost environment that we’re in for a lot of different reasons,” Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) said.
According to AAA, the current average price of a regular gallon of gas in Georgia is $4.18.
Georgia’s current gas tax is 33.3 cents per gallon of gasoline, and 37.3 cents per gallon for diesel.
That’s how much Georgia drivers will be saving per gallon of gas -– at least for one month.

“We know the farmers are trying to get their harvest in,” Kemp said. “We know that the logging crews have had it really rough in our state over the last couple of years. And so anything that we can do to try to help them just make it through all this is the reason that we suspended the gas tax.”
Kemp has suspended the gas tax multiple times as Governor, including earlier this year due to the war in Iran.
During a news conference in Brantley County on Tuesday, Action News Jax’s Madison Foglio asked the Governor if the suspension of the state’s gas tax will have an impact on the state’s budget.

He said it will, but they are prepared for it.
“It definitely has an impact on the budget, but because we have budgeted conservatively, our revenues have continued to hold up, we believe we’ll have the money to backfill the funding that normally would go to dedicated transportation issues,” Kemp said.
Georgia’s gas tax suspension ends October 29.
