A Hillcrest mother is furious after a bus driver dropped off her 6-year-old daughter at a bus stop alone.
Zarinah Jones said that’s despite letting the school bus company know the girl was too young to be left without her older brother.
Her brother was removed from the bus, before it left Ramona Elementary School, for fighting.
Instead of keeping the siblings together, the bus driver dropped the kindergartner off at her stop alone, without a key to get inside her apartment.
“I was worried and I knew that my baby was scared. She just turned 6. She’s not used to ever being by herself,” said Jones. “She was not supposed to get off the bus by herself ever.”
The bus stop is in front of Jones’ apartment complex. She said she searched with school officials and police for an hour.

“I was scared because you see so much – you see so much that happens. Kids are always getting snatched. Kids are always getting killed and raped,” she said.
While Jones was on the phone with 911, she said a man came up to her and told her someone had taken her daughter to the complex’s front office.
“She was crying. Someone had, I guess, hurried up and gave her a popsicle. They usually have popsicles in the rental office. But she was crying and she was like, ‘Mommy, I was lost.’ She was like, ‘Mommy, where’s my brother?’” she said.
Now Jones said she wants Birnie Bus service to pay closer attention before someone’s child gets hurt.
“It was no regards for the life that you have. That you’re responsible for,” said Jones.
Action News Jax has called Birnie Bus Service three times since Wednesday afternoon. No one has returned those calls.
