Mother says her child was 'slammed' on his cot at Jacksonville day care

Bianca Combs is furious. She said her 20-month-old son had been coming to La Petite Academy off of Baymeadows Road since he was 8 weeks old.

But she said that changed after receiving a call from their district office saying her son had been involved in an incident last week.

“I asked for the details and was told that he was possibly put down too roughly at nap time,” Combs said. “When I asked, 'Have you reviewed the video? Why wasn’t I contacted within 24 hours? What are the details?,' they couldn’t give me that and that’s when my alarm bells went off."

She said she contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families and learned a much different story.

“She read the report verbatim and stated he was picked up and slammed down on his cot similar to the force used to dunk a basketball and screamed at and repeatedly slammed down on his cot,” Combs said.

She also said La Petite Academy didn’t follow protocol and didn’t contact DCF when the alleged incident happened.

She said they did their own investigation and closed it out the same day.

“The school needs to be fined heavily by DCF for their violations of not reporting this properly. It’s an abuse situation,” Combs said.

Action News Jax went inside the building to get answers, but was told they couldn’t answer anything and directed us to their district office.

They later sent us this email:

"We're committed to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment. We take our responsibility as caregivers very seriously. We have strict protocols to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children and to make certain we meet or exceed state guidelines. We don't tolerate deviation from those standards.
We are partnering with the authorities as well as conducting our own review of the concerns brought to our attention, and will take appropriate action based on the outcome."
