Motorcyclist dies in Duclay neighborhood crash; 34th traffic fatality in Duval

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Just after 4:30 p.m. on Wed., Mar. 1, a man in his 40s riding a motorcycle southbound on Jammes Road collided with an oncoming vehicle making a turn.

Speaking at a press briefing this evening, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that a small sports utility vehicle was traveling northbound, in the opposite direction of the motorcycle. For reasons unknown, the SUV turned left, in front of the bike. JSO says that the vehicle was apparently attempting to turn into a residential driveway.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

JSO has confirmed that the motorcycle rider died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Traffic homicide is working the scene to determine who is at fault in the crash.

This marks the 34th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the fifth involving a motorcycle.
