DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Movers loaded a UHaul truck with furniture and other belongings at the home of former pediatric dentist Dr. Howard Schneider Monday morning.

Schneider is accused of hurting young patients in Jacksonville. He is also under investigation by the state for Medicaid fraud.

Schneider came outside of the home for a brief moment and the movers tried to block him with boxes from our Action News camera. He did not comment on the apparent move.

Action News learned the Riverside home that was once shared by Schneider and his ex-wife was featured in a book by Jacksonville Magazine about beautiful homes in 2007.

Schneider voluntarily surrendered his Florida medical license earlier this month, meaning he can no longer treat patients in Florida and likely will never treat anyone in any other state either.

“It’s an unusual situation but there’s nothing to prevent him from leaving at this point,” attorney John Phillips said.

Phillips represents the parents of more than 70 children who say they were victimized by Schneider. Phillips said they are worried Schneider will leave town to avoid facing charges in Jacksonville.

“There is a concern that he applies for another license,” Phillips said. “Now, at 78 ... and with his history, I don’t think any state will let him in but it’s certainly has been a concern of the families.”

Action News was the first to report that a criminal investigation into Schneider was underway.

The state reports that the pediatric dentist received more than $4 million in Medicaid payments since 2010.
