DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — A car crashed into a Murray Hill business on Thursday, causing more than $10,000 in damage.

The crash happened at the intersection of Edgewood and Post. A truck ended up crashing into a pole and another car crashed through the wall of Tradewinds Bar.

A Tradewinds employee, James O’Conner, said he’s just lucky to be alive.

“It sounded like a stick of dynamite went off … I was that close to dying,” James O’Conner said. “I was this far from it, this far. “

O’Conner was starting his shift at Tradewinds in Murray Hill when a silver Toyota plowed into the business.

“I was standing right back there stocking beer in the cooler, I reached around to grab a case of beer and right before I could touch it the wall literally exploded inwards,” O’Conner said.

Action News was on the scene as both cars involved in the crash were towed away.

Witnesses said the driver of the silver Toyota was an elderly woman who was taken to the hospital.

“The guy that was driving the black truck was OK, but was really (shook) up and his truck was like totaled,” O’Conner said.

The owner of Tradewinds, Ted Boutwell, said he hasn’t had anything like this happen.

“And you guys are still going to be open for business?” Action News asked him.

“Absolutely we have karaoke tonight,” Boutwell said.

Tradewinds was able to temporarily fix the hole in the side of the bar, but the owner says to fix it permanently is going to cost the owner anywhere from $10 thousand to $15 thousand.
