ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The new dolphin calf at Marineland Dolphin Adventure needs a name.
Action News is teaming up with Marineland and the Georgia Aquarium to help launch "What's In a Name?" It's your chance to pick a name for the female dolphin calf born in May.

"The dolphin calf and her mom, Dazzle, have been thriving since the calf's arrival in May. The staff and volunteers have grown very fond of the newest addition to the Marineland Dolphin Adventure family," said Kurt Allen, general manager of Marineland Dolphin Adventure. "We are excited to share this experience and engage the public in selecting her name."
Right now, fans and guests of Marineland Dolphin Adventure can enter the contest by voting for one of four names on Marineland's Facebook page.
Staff members at Marineland Dolphin Adventure and Georgia Aquarium came up with the final four names:
- Calypso, a sea nymph in Greek Mythology whose symbol is a dolphin
- Coquina, a soft limestone rock consisting of shells and corals that is found at Marineland
- Shimmer, meaning "to shine softly with a wavering or flickering light"
- Stella, meaning "star" in Latin
Each contest participant who goes to Marineland's Facebook page will also be entered to win prizes from Marineland Dolphin Adventure and AT&T. A drawing will be held to determine a Grand Prize winner and a Secondary Prize winner. The Grand Prize winner will receive a trip for two to Marineland Dolphin Adventure including airfare, a hotel stay at Hammock Beach Resort, a chance to meet Dazzle and the newly-named calf, and a device courtesy of AT&T. Hammock Beach resort is a premier oceanfront destination located in Palm Coast, Florida, committed to delivering a first-class experience for its guests. The Second Prize winner will receive a Marineland gift basket and a device courtesy of AT&T.
The contest runs through Sept. 2. The winning name will be revealed by the Marineland dolphins at a public ceremony on September 9 followed by a Family Fun Day on September 13.
AT&T is a proud sponsor of Georgia Aquarium’s dolphin exhibit, AT&T Dolphin Tales, and dolphin research and conservation efforts at Marineland Dolphin Adventure and the Conservation Field Station. Their partnership has allowed researchers to be able to assist in the rescue of stranded marine mammals and further understand dolphins, marine mammals and aquatic species found along our coast.
