NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Trent Fort, 16, was shot and killed in Nassau County nearly one year ago.

His mother, Paige Hall, tells Action News Jax she’s still processing the loss of her son.

”I wouldn’t say you’re learning to live without him, you’re just learning to cope every day at this point. He is missed so much by this community, his brother and sister,” said Hall.

Now, Hall is turning her son’s memory into a mission.

Fort was a rising football star at West Nassau High School and had dreams of playing in the NFL.

”I’ve started a not-for-profit organization. It’s called the ‘Trent Fort 4 Ever 21 Foundation,’” said Hall.

Hall launched the “Trent Fort 4 Ever 21 Foundation,” to provide scholarships, funding, sports equipment and more to deserving children pursuing athletic dreams.

”This year I did two football players because it’s a very special year for me. Next year we’re going to do it a little bit differently. We hope to get lots of donations in, and we hope to put out applications to the kids at school, have the kids kind of apply for the scholarships,” said Hall.

Action News Jax told you in July when Gaven Smith, 17, was charged with third-degree murder, and Ashton Riggs, 16, was charged with accessory with murder.

As Hall awaits justice, she hopes to help others make their dreams a reality.

”It’s still hard to believe that Trent’s not here anymore. It’s a hard thing to really overcome. I don’t know that I’ll ever come to terms with it,” said Hall.
