Nassau County suspends driving on county beaches

NASSAU CO —

Due to extreme weather conditions, driving on the beach in Nassau County has been suspended.

The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning and high-surf and high-wind advisories for Nassau County, effective through Monday Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.

Driving from Peters Point South to State Park is suspended for at least 24 hours, according to the county manager and the Emergency Management and Public Works directors.

High tides are pushing into the dune system, which is an effect of the nor’easter weather conditions.

County staff and the sheriff’s office will meet tomorrow morning to assess the erosion and beach conditions and will provide an update after the meeting.
