Near-record heat, weekend soaking ahead

Temperatures continue to be the big weather story of the week.

Jacksonville, Fl — Temperatures continue to be the big weather story this week with heat and humidity building each day.

Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says today will be partly to mostly sunny and hot with near-record temperatures of 95 (record = 97 set in 1960).

Fog may develop late tonight and early Friday, and temperatures will be stuffy.

Friday is looking hot and humid before afternoon and evening storms develop. Buresh says storm coverage will be scattered with heavy rainfall and lightning being the main threats.

It will be the start of a wetter pattern change that builds over the weekend. Saturday will feature increasing clouds with midday and afternoon heavy showers and storms. Temperatures won’t be as hot but it will be very humid.

Sunday will likely start dry with sun and clouds before scattered afternoon showers and storms develop.

The pattern stays storms into the new work week, with temperatures near average in the upper 80s.
