JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A neighbor broke a window and rescued two people from a fire that forced two families from their homes in Normandy Estates on Sunday evening.

Crews began fighting the flames at at 8985 Normandy Blvd. around 7:30 p.m.

Wilfredo Martinez said he heard a loud boom and rushed to get Iona Feliciano and her mother-in-law out of the burning home.

The home burned to the ground and flames spread to the home next door.

Feliciano wept as she told Action News Jax she and her family lost everything except the clothes on their backs.

She lived at the home with her husband and mother-in-law for the past 6 years.

Eric Germanson with the Red Cross said the agency is helping both families affected by the fire.
