“Yelled something, stay in the car, don’t move, or something like that,” Cynthia Sampsell said.

She said, “I hear two big gunshots, boom … boom.”

The loud noises from across the street brought her running out of her home on Blanding Boulevard late Sunday night.

Sampsell said her daughter heard the gunfire, too, and panicked.

“She didn’t even want me coming out to the porch. She wanted me to stay inside and watch it. ‘Mom you might get caught in the crossfire.’”

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, at least one shot, fired by a deputy, hit and killed a man driving a gray SUV.
