JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said a new fire station it's opening on Gate Parkway will lower response times and homeowner's insurance rates for nearby residents.

The permanent station is expected to open within two years.
Station 63 will be built at 6530 Gate Parkway, southwest of the Butler Blvd. and I-295 interchange.
JFRD said it will open a temporary fire station at the same address while the permanent station is built.
The temporary station will be up and running Monday, Sept. 15 and will house a 6-person crew.
