Drivers on Kernan Blvd. could soon see stop-and-go traffic.

New traffic lights are being put up along the road, but they haven’t started working just yet.

The city says new traffic signals were put in on Kernan Boulevard to assist with traffic because of new developments in the area.

One light is near North Beach on Kernan Apartments, the other right near Tropical Smoothie and the tax collector’s office.

Action News Jax asked drivers if they thought the lights would help.

One driver says it will help with people turning into shopping centers but could cause other problems.

”There’ll be a lot more stop-and-go on this road than there used to be,” said Gus Raiford.

Aprecia Davis says no matter what, she thinks the lights will help.

“For this intersection, there's a lot going on, people coming from the bank. I come here every morning to get breakfast,” said Davis.

We saw one car waiting for almost a minute to  get out of the shopping center nearby. Then, when the driver did decide to gun it across, he had a close call with a truck.

“You almost get sideswiped or not pay attention and they slam on their breaks,” said Davis.

The city says the lights will be turned on once an inspection is done on the hardware and they review the timing and phasing plans.

There’s not a specific date yet.
