JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATED STORY: Jacksonville police: Sex battery suspect killed in officer-involved shooting was holding loaded gun

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a suspect is dead following a shooting involving six officers in the Arlington area Tuesday.

According to police, the incident began at 3:54 a.m. when a JSO officer noticed a "suspicious" pickup truck parked in a dark area near the bushes of a Harveys Supermarket on Arlington Road.

Police said the man identified himself to the officer, and authorities learned there was a warrant for his arrest on a felony sexual battery charge out of another jurisdiction.

The man was asked to get out of the truck, but officers said he refused and continued to roll up the windows of the truck.

More officers arrived and continued to talk with him, asking him to exit the truck. He reportedly locked himself in and did not comply.

An officer then broke a window of the truck and tased the man but it did not affect him, JSO said.

Two other windows were broken by officers and the man was tased again, but he still didn't comply.

JSO said an officer was able to open the driver's door of the truck and saw the man roll over toward the officers with a gun in his hand and six officers fired -- killing the suspect.

Officers said the shooting happened at 4:18 a.m., 25 minutes after police confronted the suspect.

The six officers are on adminstrative leave per standard protocol, according to JSO.

The suspect, described as a man in his 30s by police, was alone in the truck.

JSO said officers will release more information Wednesday.

No officers were hurt.
