Police said the driver of a motorcycle died after colliding with an SUV at the intersection of 16th St. E. and North Main Street near the city’s Springfield area.
The accident, which occurred about 8 p.m., happened after the driver of the SUV headed in the opposite direction attempted to make a left turn. The motorcyclist collided with the SUV’s passenger side door.
The motorcyclist was a black man in his mid-20s, police said. The SUV’s driver was a black man in his late-40s, who did not appear to be driving under the influence - though the investigation is continuing.
Police said this marked the 13th motorcyclist fatality of 2026. This time last year, police said there had been 25 fatalities involving motorcyclists.
