According to the FAA, the outage prompted a ground stop nationwide at approximately 6:45 a.m. Flights were not fully restored to normal schedules until about 9 a.m. All airports had resumed normal operations by 9 a.m. except Boston, LaGuardia and Atlanta. Those airports have since returned to normal operations.

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tweeted that both President Biden and Secretary of Transportation Buttigieg were briefed this morning on the issue and said the Department of Transportation will be investigating. However, FAA officials don’t believe the outage to be the result of a cyber attack.

At JIA, officials are reporting that only six flights were canceled. However, there are still many delays. Travelers are encouraged to keep checking with their airlines for flight information, as the outage is likely to have a ripple effect across the industry through Friday.
