Holes left in the walls at Pulse nightclub in Orlando are reminders of the terror that happened inside.
Law enforcement officers used an armored vehicle to punch the holes to help people inside escape from gunfire.
Wyllie Hodges, an officer with Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said armored vehicles such as BearCats are necessary in high-risk situations.
He said creating the holes was a smart tactical move and a way of getting into the building that the shooter was most likely not expecting.
“I’m sure the hole in the wall was for both purposes get people out and get officers in,” said Hodges.
He said it’s common for these vehicles to be used in SWAT standoffs or active shooter situations.
“Anytime you have fire power going in its good to have at your disposal,” said Hodges.
JSO said their BearCat is deployed on all SWAT call outs.
