CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Those who live near Omega Park are voicing their concerns after a 12-year-old was critically injured when he was hit by a car on County Road 218 Thursday.
"The children come over and cross this road every day," said parent Susan Daniel.
FDOT and Clay County say they're working on building a sidewalk near Omega Park.
"It should've been done a long time ago," said Clay County resident Richard Alderson.
Daniel says that doesn't do anything for those trying to cross the street, and wants a crosswalk built as well.
"There's no pedestrian walkway for the children, no flashing lights to get them safely across the road,"said Daniel.
Action News Jax asked the Clay County Commission about the road and whether it's mandatory to have a crosswalk near a park.
Officials said there is no specific requirement to have a crosswalk near a park.
They said, “We're reviewing this site currently to find out if there's anything that we can do additionally.”
