The Florida Department of Health has issued an emergency order of suspension for a local pharmacy technician who was accused of stealing prescription drugs from local patients.
Investigators said Brian Fink worked at the Winn-Dixie pharmacy at the corner of Beach Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff Road.
Fink was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in December.
According to the arrest report with JSO, the store managers noticed missing drugs and went through surveillance video that showed him stealing pills.
Action News Jax spoke with Linda Myers, Fink’s aunt, who said Fink is working to clean up his life.
"He's going through rehab," Myers said. "He knows he needs it and we love Brian and we want the best for him."
Myers said Fink had been struggling with a prescription drug addiction following the death of his 6-year-old daughter.
“He was caught doing wrong and he regrets it," Myers said. “He’s trying very hard to kick the life of addiction and to have a good family.”
Zack Bingham, senior director of communications for Winn-Dixie’s parent company Southeastern Grocers, released the following statement:
"We take this matter very seriously because the trust and safety of our customers is our highest priority. This individual is no longer with the company and we appreciated the assistance of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office during this investigation."
