ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A plane went down into a marsh near the Northeast Regional Airport, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Two people were on board the plane, and both sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police say.
The Florida Highway Patrol later identified the pilot as John Bailey, 42, of St. Augustine, and the passenger as Logan Boehime, 19.
Bailey told FHP that he was attempting to land the plane at the St. Augustine Airport when the plane suffered an unknown mechanical failure, according to the report.
Bailey also told troopers that he performed an emergency landing in the Intracoastal Waterway near the Vilano Boat Ramp. The plane was not able to be reached due to being in the water and not near a roadway, the report said.
