JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A SWAT standoff that had lasted for about eight hours in Riverside turned deadly.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the suspect barricaded himself in his apartment Sunday night. Police blocked off the entire area near the Riviera Parkway Apartments.
Officers lined the streets with rifles drawn keeping people outside safe. JSO responded to the call just before 6 p.m. from the man's current or former girlfriend.

The caller told police he was armed and when officers tried to speak with him, they say he ran inside his apartment and wouldn't come out. SWAT then responded around 9:30 p.m.
“The subject had barricaded himself inside and refused to come out and speak with the officers for them to be able to finish their investigation into the original domestic disturbance call,” said JSO Chief Pat Ivey.
SWAT surrounded the man's apartment and a team of negotiators tried to reason with him.
However, around 1 a.m. our crew on the scene reported hearing a popping noise. JSO said that is around the time they found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his apartment.
