DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — The Jacksonville Police and Fire Pension Reform fund passed Friday. Jacksonville's Police and Fire Pension Board met and voted to pass the new deal 4-1.
Councilman Clay Yarborough said it's not perfect, but it's an agreement, and it's the furthest they've ever come. Councilman Bill Gulliford said the the city has been bleeding money, which is obviously doing a disservice to the taxpayers.

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown signed the bill surrounded by members of the board Friday morning. He said the bill will save taxpayers $1.5 billion over 30 years.
The only vote against the deal came from board member Richard Tuten, who said he was worried about what will happen next.
"I'm concerned they're going to keep their promise. We've agreed to compromise in the past, the council voted against it 9-9," Tuten said. "...as for future council members go, I don't know."
The option to fund the pension involving JEA is still caught up in legislation, and the council still has to vote.
