Police investigate after man found shot dead in car on highway

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A young man was found shot dead on Jacksonville’s Westside inside a car located on a highway.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the victim and the driver of the car got into some kind of confrontation at about 10:40 p.m. Monday in the area near Lane Avenue and Wilson Boulevard.

Police said the victim and a friend went to the 6800 block of Wilson Boulevard to purchase narcotics. The victim was shot at some point before being driven away by a friend, JSO said.

The driver drove until he saw police officer working in the construction zone on Interstate 295 and Interstate 10. The officer tried to save the victim, but he was not able to be revived. The victim’s identity hasn’t been released at this time.

Police say the driver tried desperately to get him help. JSO said the friend is cooperating with police.

There is no suspect description in the ongoing investigation.
