JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl in which abuse is believed to be a factor.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department called JSO to the Fountains at Deerwood apartments at 7816 Southside Boulevard on Friday night.
Police say girl was taken to Wolfson Children's Hospital with clear signs of physical abuse and she later died.
The girl's parents are being questioned and are being cooperative with the investigation and police are waiting for a warrant to search the apartment.
JSO is treating the case as a homicide investigation. Two other children in the home, a 6-year-old and a 1-year-old, are in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families
No one else but the children and the parents were in the home at the time.
