Police respond to viral video claims that officers were called on child for dominating soccer game

WINTER PARK, Fla. — A video claiming police were called on a 3-year-old boy after he was removed from a soccer game for being “too good” has quickly gone viral. The video has been shared hundreds of thousands of times on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook and it has even been shared by some celebrities.

It occurred Saturday at Winter Park Events Center, 1050 W. Morse Blvd.

The video shows the child playing in a children’s soccer league game with the child running circles around the other kids and scoring a ton of goals.

The video then shows a woman talking to police officers who are telling her that the league is asking her family to leave.

Winter Park police told Action News Jax on Monday morning that police were not called on the child, but on the child’s parents. “There is a parent onsite causing a disturbance,” according to a police Event Report.

The report states that police were called by the director of the sporting event. The director “advised of unruly parents who were upset with their son’s playing time ... parents were informed that their child would no longer be allowed to play in this league due to behavior.”

The report also states that the parents were “upset that their child was being scorned for playing too well and was being taken out of the game.”

Police said the family left the field without issue and were told that they’d receive a refund from the sporting league.

Winter Park police sent the following statement to Action News Jax about incident:

“The Winter Park Police Department was contacted by a soccer league official who requested response to a disturbance between league officials and the parents of a player. The league requested the family leave and offered to refund the league cost to family. Shortly after arrival, the officers were requested by the league official to communicate with the family as he did not want to further a disturbance. The family stated the game was over and they were leaving. The family was cooperative with the officers and were provided with an event number for the incident at their request. The incident was a civil matter between those parties and not criminal. No one was arrested, trespassed, or forced to leave the park. The Officers body worn cameras confirm the above information.”
