BRUNSWICK, Ga. — One student is in the hospital and three others are complaining of respiratory problems, possible side effects from what a spokesman for the Glynn County School District described as a chemical cloud.
Jim Weidhaas, the media relations director for Glynn County Schools, said paramedics took one student from Glynn Academy to a hospital Friday morning.
The academy also kept kids inside.
Brunswick Fire Chief Randy Mobley told Action News the odor came from the Georgia Pacific mill nearby and said it's harmless but obnoxious.
The students became sick around 10 a.m., at about the same time when residents started to complain of an odor in the air.
Mobley said an outage at the plant led to the odor, which smelled like natural gas.
Mobley said there is no public health threat.
