‘The proof is in the premium bill’: New report finds Florida policyholders paid $3B less in 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida’s insurance crisis is showing major signs of improvement.

That’s according to a new report that found Floridians paid $3 billion less for their home and auto insurance policies in 2025 compared to the year prior.

Local policyholders like Faye Adebola are finally starting to feel some relief following years of instability in Florida’s insurance market.

She recently found a new auto policy, saving her about $15 a month.

“A little bit of relief, and any little bit relief that we can get, we’ll take it!” said Adebola.

And her story is not unique.

The new report produced by the American Property Casualty Insurance Association found in 2025 that Floridians’ auto premiums dropped by $1.7 billion while their home premiums dropped by $1.3 billion.

“We looked at a recent report from LendingTree that shows Florida is not even in the top 10 most expensive home insurance states on their list,” said Mark Friedlander with the Insurance Information Institute. ”That’s how much things have changed.”

Friedlander argued all the evidence points towards an improving insurance climate following legislative changes in 2022 and 2023.

One of the biggest signs of improvement, he argued, can be seen in the number of insurance lawsuits.

Florida’s national share of litigation has dropped by 50 percent since those reforms were passed.

“The legislation was very strong. It took a lot of effort to get it passed. There was a lot of debate, a lot of complaints. The proof is in the premium bill,” said Friedlander.

But not everyone is feeling the relief, as some, like Cindy Fordham, told us their insurance bills continue to climb year after year.

“And insurance for your home is definitely not going down. It’s going higher,” said Fordham.

But Friedlander argued if your bills are still growing, it’s probably time to shop around.

“You have more than 20 new insurers that have entered the market since 2023. There’s a lot of competition now,” said Friedlander.

Some policyholders saw direct relief in 2026.

State Farm recently paid out $5 billion to auto policyholders nationwide, while USAA paid out nearly a billion dollars to Florida policyholders alone this year.
