ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — Police are issuing a warning after a gun scare in Atlantic Beach.
On Sunday, residents called 911 after seeing a masked man carrying a rile through a construction site. When officers got there, they found four people with Airsoft guns — playing a game.
Fortunately, the gamers complied with officers' orders, and no one was hurt.
Police are reminding owners of Airsoft guns that it's not safe to display them unless they are on private property. They also need permission from the property owner.
From the Atlantic Beach Police Department's Facebook page:
"The neighbors who saw these individuals had no idea that the guns were not real and neither did the responding officers. The officers involved did an outstanding job handling the call utilizing extra precaution and restraint.
Municipal Ordinance 13-9 makes It unlawful for any person to carry, display, or brandish any replica or facsimile of a firearm in a manner or at a location which would injure, annoy or create fear in the general public or in any individual.
If a law enforcement officer approaches you while you are using Air soft guns, immediately comply with all the officers' directions."
