The St. Johns County Board of Commissioners will vote on the development of a community marina on December 17.
Opponents of the project say the Intracoastal is too narrow to handle heavy boat traffic and could pose a safety hazard. Others against the marina simply don't want more activity near their homes.
Proponents say the area has previously handled heavy traffic without issues and a marina would actually increase safety on the waterway by keeping trained personnel available to help boaters.
