JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Dozens of Jacksonville residents are getting threats from the Internal Revenue Service about lawsuits being filed against them.

There's just one thing -- they aren't real.

The scam plays a prerecorded message that says: “The reason of this call is to inform you that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. To get more information on the case file please call immediately."

Houston Ingram says he knew it was a scam, but wanted to make sure others did too.

“I didn't call back because I knew I didn't owe any money,” Ingram said.

Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson said it's tough to track these people down.

“They're going to have you send money to an account that can't be tracked, and by the time it is tracked -- it's empty,” Carson said.

The IRS posted information on its website about the scam. That information can be found by clicking the link here.
