ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Three Sebastian Middle School employees have requested hearings with the district before it decides whether they should be fired.

The employees are preparing for a lengthy appeals process to try to keep their jobs.

According to the school district, they engaged in inappropriate behavior during an interaction with a 13-year-old student last month.

Action News Jax reported two weeks ago about how people close to the student and parents with kids at the school said the child's arm was broken as a result.

Last Thursday, we learned no criminal charges will be filed.

The three employees, Jarrod Branco, Robert O'Shell and Peter Sharman are contesting the recommendations for their termination.

Because of that, no action can be taken until after the hearings are conducted and grievances addressed.

Once the hearings get underway they'll function much like a civil trial where each side is represented by counsel and can present evidence.

On Tuesday, the school board decided to extend the educators' suspension with pay until a final decision is made.

The public hearings are expected to be scheduled for late November.
