JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary sent a letter to Wounded Warrior Project Board of Directors Chairman Anthony Odierno, calling into question the charity's financial figures.
Among the points covered in the letter:
-The Senate was looking into WWP's claims of spending 80.6 percent of its budget on services, calling it into question
-The Senate says the WWP's figures are based on consolidated financial statements and not its 990 forms
-The Senate says WWP was including donated media in program costs. If you take away donated media, the actual amount spent on programs goes from 80.6 percent to 66.6 percent
-The Senate says WWP considers some joint educational and fundraising solicitations as programs expenses. While that is allowed, it is unclear to them what benefit this would have for veterans or the mission of WWP and most watchdog groups don't include that in program costs
-The Senate wants to know more about the long-term support trust and how it benefits veterans
The Senate said in the letter it wants more answers by June 1. CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL LETTER
