JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A series of burglaries occurred at The Flats at UNF Saturday morning.

Now the University of North Florida Police Department and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office are warning students about the incidents living there and nearby.

UNF police said they are increasing their presence in the complex. There are also signs posted warning students of the burglaries.

Around 5 a.m. police were dispatched to the student housing complex for reports of burglaries. Investigators said, someone broke into several apartments through a window.

The robber then forced his way into several bedrooms within the apartment, including one where a girl was sleeping. The intruder told the victim to get down on the floor, but she screamed and the burglar ran.

A resident told Action News the burglary happened next to their apartment and they didn’t hear anything. The resident also said there usually isn’t any police activity at the complex.

According to police, the girl who was woken up by the intruder couldn’t give a description of the intruder because it was too dark.

Police say just down the road at The District there have been similar break-ins reported.
