ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — It was a busy day at the tax collector’s office in St. Augustine as some of the first people walked in the door to apply for a gun permit in St Johns County.
Due to rising demand for gun permits, the St. Johns County Tax Collectors Office partnered with the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture to pass legislation to allow locals to apply for the permits at the Tax Collectors Office.

St. Johns County is one of the first offices in the state to offer this.
Previously, locals would have to drive to Jacksonville to apply for the permit where locals say they would have to wait weeks to get an appointment, which they say was a hassle.
Applications can be done on site, and they are fingerprinted here as well.

From here the applications are sent to Tallahassee for approval.
The cost for submitting the application is $134 dollars.
St. Johns County there are 13,481 people who currently have concealed weapon permits.
