ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another in custody in St. Augustine on Saturday.
Neighbors on Como Court in the St. Augustine Shores area say the shooting involved an elderly couple.
James Frazee, who lives just two doors down from where the shooting took place, says he woke up around 9 a.m. on Saturday to the sound of police sirens right outside of his bedroom window.
“I look out and there are police cars and police with assault rifles aimed at this house over here,” Frazee said. “I know it to be a very elderly man and his wife, and I’m thinking, why would they be showing up here like SWAT team-style, ready to invade the place?”

Property records for the address show a 91-year-old man and an 87-year-old woman live at the home.
Frazee says the woman was in poor health, and the husband took care of her.
“They were talking to him and telling him to come out with his hands up,” Frazee said. “A bunch of guys swarmed up there with assault rifles around the house, and he came out, and they pulled the car up real quick, and they put him in the back.”

Frazee says he’s lived near the couple for 16 years.
“I’ve only interacted with them maybe a half a dozen times,” Frazee said. “We were cordial as neighbors, but we weren’t friends, and I don’t know that much about them. I just know that she was in really bad health, and he’s pretty old.”

Sally Douglas, who lives up the street from the couple, says the entire incident has left her shocked.
“It’s very sad,” Douglas said. “Nobody was expecting that.”
Another neighbor, 16-year-old Carter Lauchman, says his family is trying to figure out what could’ve happened.
“They were pretty nice people,” Lauchman said. “It was like kind of crazy because I’ve never like seen anything like this.”
