JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Navy is preparing to cut thousands of jobs as it looks to downsize in certain areas.
Sources told Action News Jax that the proposal will not impact NAS JAX or Naval Station Mayport.
The Navy Times reported thousands of active-duty jobs would be downsized in fiscal year 2017. But, Congress would need to sign off on it.
Although it may sound like a lot of jobs, our sources said an average of 40,000 sailors leave the Navy every year.
