ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. — Between St. Augustine's 450th celebration and Labor Day, St. Augustine Beach police are expecting major crowds to hit the sand this weekend.
They're nearly tripling patrols.
"This really is one of our busiest days of the year anyways, Labor Day Weekend. It just so happens the 450th and Labor Day are together, which really worked out good for law enforcement, because again, our patrols are increased this weekend anyways," said St. Augustine Beach Police Chief Robert Hardwick.
He said his biggest safety advice for people heading to the crowded beaches is to lock their car doors and keep an eye on their kids.
"Not that anybody's going to take them, but they like to wander off," said Hardwick.
Beachgoers Brett Nedelkoff and Daniele Fedonni said they won't be joining the crowds.
"We might head to Gainesville, actually, as the weekend continues, because it is going to get pretty crowded," said Fedonni.
"We decided to come out here a day early, because he said it was going to be pretty crazy this weekend," said Nedelkoff.
Hardwick said he expects Sunday and Monday to be the busiest beach days.
