The SJSO Special Victims' Unit started investigating in October after receiving reports that Hinckley "had sexual activity with a 16-year-old male student that was in her class," according to the release.
After that investigation began, she was suspended with pay by the St. Johns County School District.
SJSO detectives questioned witnesses and obtained search warrants and then turned the investigation over to the State Attorney's Office, which issued the arrest warrant on Wednesday afternoon.
Action News Jax went to Hinckley's home in Jacksonville on Wednesday night, but no one answered. We also reached out to Hinckley's neighbors, who declined to comment.
A spokesperson for the school district said based on Hinckley's charge and the completion of the SJSO investigation, the superintendent will be recommending to the school board at its Dec. 8 meeting that she be suspended without pay. Beyond that, the school district will go through the legal process and follow that closely.
