St. Augustine restaurant has dozens of rodent droppings

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Health inspectors temporarily closed a St. Augustine restaurant for the second week in a row.

Matanzas Innlet is a repeat offender on the Restaurant Report after making the list in November 2013.  This time the restaurant was temporarily shut down for not one, but two days because investigators found a heavy presence of rodent activity.  Investigators detail at least 80 droppings from one or more rodents that caused them to temporarily close the restaurant.  They issued a stop sale on food with rodent gnaw marks or holes, and they were using expired ingredients to make food.

Pacific Asian Bistro on in St. Augustine had 21 violations this week.  Health inspectors cited the restaurant for having live small flying insects in the food prep area, warm food on the sushi bar that is supposed to be cold, and non-food grade containers used to store food.

At Taverna on San Marco Blvd in Jacksonville, health inspectors issued eight high-priority violations including undercooked chicken, expired ingredients, and a toxic substance or chemical stored by or with food.
