JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In two days, the peak of scam season will begin. The Better Business Bureau of Northeast Florida said Black Friday brings out all of the cons, both in the stores and online.

"My card was skimmed at a gas station and in 24 hours they emptied our account of $4,000 and we found out one hour before we left for Portugal," Nina Allbert said.

Allbert said it took her and her husband weeks to track down the con. Eventually, their bank reimbursed them the full amount.

Wednesday, St. Johns County issued a reminder about scams. They released two reports about incidents in which seniors lost thousands of dollars.

According to the report, a St, Augustine woman said someone used her information to open a fake account at Chase Bank. After reviewing the documents, she found the credit line limit, for $15,400 and $4,700, had been used as a cash advance. She reported the same issue with a fake account with Citi bank. The report states the woman will not be held responsible for any charges that have occurred under these accounts.

The second report involves an elderly woman in St. Johns County. It states she received an email from "US Tech Support" claiming she had to pay a fee to close the account. It states she ended up buying $8,000 worth of credit cards to pay the account. After learning it was a scam, it said the bank would not refund her the money.
