ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Public Library System is marking Library Card Sign-up Month in September with a discount campaign connecting cardholders to more than 115 local businesses.
The “Community Connections” program lets library cardholders show their card at participating businesses throughout St. Johns County to receive exclusive deals during the month.
The campaign launched in 2024 with 34 partners. This year’s expansion to more than 115 businesses reflects the community’s support for the library system, according to Alex Barr, SJCPLS community engagement coordinator.
“This program highlights the power of collaboration in our community,” Barr said. “The number of local businesses showing up for their library system this year reaffirms the commitment of libraries and local businesses to our community. Together, we’re offering even more savings with your library card.”

SJCPLS Director Debra Rhodes Gibson said a library card offers value beyond borrowing materials.
“The library card is the smartest card in your wallet all year long,” Rhodes Gibson said. “Signing up for a library card goes beyond borrowing materials or attending programs. Library cards enrich lives, foster belonging, promote literacy, and provide access to information for all.”
Library cards are free for St. Johns County residents and provide access to bestsellers, DVDs and audiobooks, as well as 24/7 access to the SJCPLS eLibrary.
Through the eLibrary, cardholders can check out e-books, read the digital edition of The New York Times, stream movies and conduct research for work or school.
