ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Public Library System is updating its service fee structure starting Thursday, Oct. 1 and adjusting branch operating hours starting Sunday, Oct. 4.
Library officials said the changes align operations with current visitation, circulation, and service-usage patterns.

Under the updated schedule, Sunday hours will be discontinued and select evening hours will be adjusted to focus resources on periods of higher community demand.
Overdue fees across the system have not been adjusted in more than a decade. The revised fee structure comes after a broader cost analysis conducted by St. Johns County to maintain resources and services for residents.

All physical branches will continue offering in-person services Monday through Saturday. Meanwhile, digital resources—including e-books, audiobooks, research databases and online learning tools—will remain accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any internet-connected device.
Debra Rhodes Gibson, director of library services for St. Johns County, said the decision aims to align staffing with peak usage times.

“Our commitment to the residents of St. Johns County remains unchanged,” Gibson said in a news release from the County. “These adjustments are guided by careful analysis of visitation data and service usage, helping us ensure our operations best reflect the needs of our community. The St. Johns County Public Library System remains open, fully staffed and dedicated to connecting you with the resources, programs and community you can count on.”
